rough idle when cold/low idle when warm
« on: November 08, 2005, 09:43:37 AM »
my '91 8v kick has started to act up a bit. it idles rough when cold and then once its warm idles around 500-600 rpm?

Also the tailpipe is really black suggesting its getting  too much fuel. Any suggestions?

does it rev when warming up and then slowly drop rpms? I did the "wax pellet" fix on my 8 v and it runs really nice ever since.

What is the 'wax pellet' fix mate?

Mine's a pig to start from cold (single point injection). Idles well on a 1000 when started and warming up then once warm revs stay up between 1200 and 1800  :o

Gave it a service and still the same. Its doing around 100 miles off a full tank on a run and me taking my time on the throttle!!!

Whats everyone elses fuel consumtion like as im swapping to a derv if this is normal. :)

Do a search for wax pellet, I know it was discussed before.

There's a little wax pellet that at a certain temperature expands and stops the "cold idle" condition.  Over time it either falls apart, sticks in place, or whatever and you just get stuck with this high idle all the time.

Basically you remove the pellet in the cheap fix.  Takes a little longer to warm up in the cold temperatures but no high idle.

while the wax is hard and not melted, it lets alot of extra air flow into the intake, but the wax breaks down over time and lets to much air in, creating very high/surging idol while warming up, all you do is seal off the hole under neath the cover that allows the air into the intake... it does take a bit longer to warm up, but better then having a cold engine revving up.

Think i should have read the opening line of first thread properly as i have a 1.3 single point injection samurai not a vitara (or whatever you guys call them)  :-[

I'm guessing that the wax pellet thing is not on my van then? Any other ideas?

Sorry to hijack the thread  ;)
