i went and done learnt something today!
« on: October 30, 2005, 12:00:58 PM »
hey guys... i just found out that i don't think my tracker has a cat converter...  unless there's just some other design i've never seen.... i've always thought they look similar to a big muffler, but all my pipe has between the muffler and manifold is a slightly larger diameter pipe... kind of like an old school glasspack...  I do have an o2 sensor going into the pipe though, after the larger diameter pipe... so is this just another design, or has someone removed the converter and did a straight pipe?  BTW, this is a 96 tracker 2door

right, something similar to a muffler.. could  the lack of a converter be the reason for my smoking?  it never smokes until i let it sit at idle for a while, and give it a little gas (like at a drive through window)... and its real embarrasing to smoke the folks out of the window when i drive off.... someone told me first that i was burning oil, but i've kept a close eye on it for about 3 months now, and its not burning oil at all.... and another thing, it may just be in my head, but it seems to smoke more when i'm low on gas... like it quits when i fill it up or something.... any advice y'all?

Stop trying to get high Octane stuff at the boat ramp,
you must be getting 2 cycle gas instead   ;D

The LL Av Gas has more lead than the old
leadded Auto Gas, remove your Cat and O2
first, but it runs really good, I used to put it
in my Motorcycle

Back when I worked at the local airport we usually had to defuel a plane once a month (avg) and had limited fuel storage ;) We couldnt put it back into the fuel truck so ran about 1 tank a month thru my old pick up. At the time I was filling up about 10 times a month  so 1 out of 10 tanks was Av gas, and never had an issue with the Cat clogging up. It was nice though to clean out alot of the carbon out of my exhaust though.

wildgoody, what the heck are you talking about??  whoever buys high octane with prices the way they are now, they gotta be morons... i used to put the premium stuff in my accord when i had it...  oh, this is off-subject, but i learned something else by chance... i was washing my car sunday after church, and i sprayed some tire shine called "onyx" (clear bottle, black label with blue writing, blue liquid)... and i got some on my bumper by accident... so i took a paper towel to try to wipe it off, and it made it look real nice, so i sprayed the whole thing with the stuff and now the bumpers are just as dark and shiny as the painted parts.... it looks unbelievably awesome...

I'm building a turbo engine that will have to
get 91 fuel to run right under heavy throttle,
I just figure gas is going to be 3 bucks a gallon,
and it doesn't make much difference which vehicle
I have to fill, my PU Track takes $90 to fill, do that
about once a week and you won't mind paying for
premium in a Track/Kick that gets 20 MPG instead
of 14 in my truck

I was in a similar situation a few years ago.  Worked at a FBO at Grand Rapids International Airport (GRR) and had access to 100LL from our sump tank.  The 93 Tracker I had at the time liked it just fine.  As did my brother's Subaru.  Remember in many countries that these same vehicles were sold in our idea of high test gas is tractor gas and trust me, low lead gas really is low lead.

Wow half a tank for $10  :o I get a whole tank for about 40 euro's (and a euro is something like $1.10). So I suggest you stop complaining  ;) And be glad you live in the US and not the EU  :'(
