I just finished installing my CB into the Goblin for tomorrow's wheeling trip. Normally the group I ride with doesn't use them, but the guys I'm running with tomorrow do. Anyways, I just found a sweet spot to mount it. In the ashtray. On a 93 Tracker LSI, the ashtray hole in the dash is the perfect size for a Maxon MCB30 CB. I slid the ashtray out, then removed the metal bracket that it slides on. I unclipped the plastic tracks that the tray rides on, then screwed the cb bracket onto the metal ashtray bracket and put it back in the hole. The I slid the cb up in from behind and attached it to the cb bracket and wired it up. I made sure to recess it back far enough to clear the stick shifter. I'll snap a pic of it tomorrow in the day time, too dark outside for my camera right now. Best thing about this instal, no cutting or custom fitting at all! and I can go back to stock with the ashtray in a matter of minutes with no hint that anything was done to it! Just thought I'd share...LOL!

FWIW I have a larger CB (Uniden PC78) mounted using two of the under dash screws on the passenger side of the dash. They are close to the perfect width for a lot of CB mounting brackets. A CB can take up a little bit of leg room there, but it's really not too bad. I've had a Grant XL and a Galaxy 99V mounted there as well.

I'll have to post a picture of it sometime.

What is everyone using for antenna mounts on their rigs?

My old style mount was a Dodge p/u mount bent to fit the Kick.
Worked perty well.


My new style mount is mounted to the backdoor.



Works alright back there but a really good spot for an antenna is the middle of the roof (hardtop)
If not, the antenna should be a foot above the roof line to work right and tuned.

Works very well there for wheeling, but would need an external speaker for on-road use to be heard over the swampers and wind noise...

My antenna is mounted to an L bracket that's bolted to the bottom right of my tailgate. I use a 6 foot Francis whip and have incredible range, even from the cheapie Maxon Mini cb... One warning though, if you mount to the tailgate, make sure it's clear of the tail lights when the gate is fully open. Mine is mounted as far right as I could without hitting the tail light with the gate fully open...

Exact same place i installed mine... same model too  lol...  you are correct.. it definatly needs an external speaker though.. my tire howl so bad i can barely hear it down the highway.

The top front screw keeps comming loose, and falling out on my ash tray.  Then the thing gets stuck, then I cant get it out.   Now I have a good excuse to take it out for good.  I have a Midland CB that I think will fit there.  I need to get a external speaker though.  And a antenna set up.  I am a Ham, so I will feel funny having a CB and not a ham radio mounted in the rig.  I have not been too active in the Ham radio world lately.  I have a sidekick, with a skinny radio, so there is room for a 2M mobil ham rig there.
The first wheeling trip I went on, I stuck that CB between the seat and the consol, with a cig plug, and a mag mount.  Work great for the trail.  I see you your can of spray on mud must have gotten hot and popped off inside ur rig

I luv the looks at the self-service car wash when I open the doors and pressure wash the interior (after pulling the body plugs) ... last time some guy in a lowered ricer was picking his jaw off the ground when he saw me do it
