CRAP!  We got 3 feet on Sunday/Monday!  You won't get far!   The Rising Sun Toyota Club ran about 2/3 of the way up Yankee Hill a few weeks back - before all this snow...

I gotta $99 USB GPS receiver on an ibm mini-laptop and TOPO software ... works pretty good just need a solid mount now ...

I have the Etrex Legend.  It is a very capable unit. I have a bike mount on it and a bar on my dash to mount it and my XM Sat.  The Legend un hooks easily and I used it today on a boat trip. The only disadvantage is it is a small screen and when you go into a national forrest or park, it shades that area, reducing the contrast even more.  I have the topo maps I can load for whatever area I am in that can give you more information that I could ever see any one use.  An area with real heavy tree coverage can sometimes block your satellite signals. I have wheeled for hours not paying any attention to exactly where I was and then just look at the GPS and know where I am.  I would not wheel without one.

Jeff, that's a Hella-Tight setup there, but I must regard my budget and environmental abuse.  I did some comparisons.  It looks like the e-Trex Vista does everything the Legend can do + plus more memory and a few more gadgets.  The $ difference isn't that much when shopping eBay.

I bought both my garmin and my laptop used. Saved a LOT of money. Might not be the flashest set up but it works and a softop isn't the most secure place to have stuff like that.

I run an older Garmin GPS 12 Map. Maps are built in and not upgradable but, with a forest service map I can find out exactly were I am.....or supposed to be...or should be going?  :P
