over axle lift ?

over axle lift ?

  Could someone give a little advise on a small lift system. From my reading it seems the 2" shackle would be easy and enough with out having to modify anything. And how about that -Shackle Reversal System ? Whats that for ??
Also there is an ebay deal that a guy is selling fixes for the sloppy shifter - tranfercase lock up - and an "Over axle lift" ??
 Any body deal with this before ??
 Not looking to go to far out on this - just a little higher than stock with little modifications. Maybe putting 29" tires on it.

   I did a SPOA (spring over axle) myself the kit said 6 inch and I guess I got all 6 cause they say if you go over 6 inches you have drive shaft vibes cause its at too much of an angle .. you can get the SPOA perches pretty cheap $65 - $85 but then you have to get alot of other things like extended brake lines , a z bar or some other way to do your steering bar cause it doesnt work anymore , shock mounts , shocks , new U bolts cause the old ones are to cheap , of coarse tires and wheels .. then you dont have as much power as before so you get new T case gears .. boy it is alot , but worth it , to see the look on people faces on motor cycleswhen they come around a curve or over a hill where no vehicle aughta be , there you are , ha ha priceless

For a little lift, shackles are fine.  A buddy of mine has the shackle reverse setup on, and it works great.  The over axle lift (or Spring-Over-Axle) is a lot more involved as suzsami said.  That's what I put in my Zuk.

The sloppy shifter fix is a new replacement alignment bolt for the shifter.  You can get them for about $1.99 from http://www.rocky-road.com/zukome.html.  The xfer case lockup repair is a replacement "sheet" to hold the xfer case in place properly.  Again, Rocky Road, or most other Zuk aftermarket places have them.  You can find them cheap on ebay, but check with the aftermarket places for descriptions and pricing first.

I've read somewhere that having your spring over the axel is not very good for going on road.  They said it makes the Samurai a very poor road handler.

Is that right?  And why?

Nonsense! It all depends on what you do or don't do in conjunction w/ the SPO lift and the components you use. All the things mentioned earlier are factors.....modify one thing something else changes.  Lots of vehicles came from the factory SPO.

My zuk actually drives better with the spring over.  It helps that I changed to better shocks, added a front trac bar, and widened my wheelbase with offset rims at the same time, but it's much more stable and predictable than it was before.

Agreed  ;D (if ya go higher ya gotta go wider)  I also run a wider wheel offset and the handling is far superior than stock. I guess rears up front helps the ride alot and a trac bar would make it handle even better. I've gotta do something about the rear end ride next, looking at the front CJs....longer is better ;)

I to agree that the SPOA has gotten a bad rap i also kind of fround on it until i did it an BAM i saw the light i have the lifted perches and SPOA 29x10.50x15 TSL SX with a 2-3/4 offset rims,shocks and poly bushings the ride is not only smoother more responsive my articulation is great and cornering is nothing like the the rollover video we have all seen my stance and aproach is nice but i have acquired sum cj springs so i to have been doing sum looking into the cj conversions we will see what happens this new year that is when i plan to do the surgery(1.6 conv&CJ susp swap) on my SAMURAI!
