Need power steering help!??
« on: May 03, 2005, 04:30:47 PM »
Got my sami all setup with power steering and it's not workign?  [}:)]
So, anyone have any clues?  It seems a little better than before (no power)...  But according to friends who have done the swap, it's definitely not working like it should.  (It still takes two hands to turn the wheel).  I think it might be the pump?  When you turn the wheel, it doesn't drag on the motor (no rpm drop).  Also, it didn't take much fluid to fill the system.  It Kinda seems like its full of air.  But after like an hour of burping it, I don't think thats it.  Please help with any input [xx(]!!?

It has to be dirt or a stuck relief valve, you could take the high pressure hose off of the steering box and put it in the top of your resivier(spell check)and recycle your fluid and see that your pump in working ok, or just drive it a while and see if it starts working, I would turn it lock to lock a few times and even hold it to one side hard for a little while and see what happends?

Thanks for the advice!  8)
I'll pull the hi pressure line off and see if its recirculating.  If it's not, I will be asking if anyone has experience taking a pump apart / messing with the relief valve (not sure where in the pump its located)?
I have driven it and it seems like it works good for the 1st 1/4 turn of the steering wheel but gets much stiffer after that... :o
Thanks again for the info - still curious if this has happened to anynone else??  ???

Our pump seems to be a bit weak at very low idle.  (6-800 rpms)  Gotta give er some gas to get the power steering really working well.

I wonder if there is a way to turn up the pressure when at low idle.  I've really never looked that closely at the steering box.

mine has a pressure switch on the pump with a yellow wire hooked to it that goes to the ecm to bump the rpm's up. I have an extra wire that does the same thing for the ac I would like to hook up to a button for low range if I could figure out if you have to ground it or add 12v to it?
