1996 Sidekick Sport for sale. Great project ride!
« on: October 11, 2017, 09:02:20 AM »
1996 Sidekick Sport 4WD 1.8L, 5spd trans, fac. manual hubs, sport wheels, Black/Gold paint 5-door. Power windows, locks, and A/C. 202K miles, most of that is highway miles.
2nd owner, clean title, central Texas vehicle with no real rust/rust issues. Body still in pretty decent shape.  Vehicle parked with motor running absolutely fine and well maintained. Had just put a new starter in shortly before I parked it.  I also have installed an all brass radiator to replace the stock one that had a tank crack at the top (vehicle has never been overheated btw). Transmission ailing is what parked it to avoid completely trashing it. Vehicle will need some elbow grease, a pinch of mechanical skills and a touch of TLC to return it to roadworthy, but it is worthy.  Just too many other projects + lack of space and time where I need it to be to do it myself making me list it, but thinking I might change my mind yet again on the subject.  Have additional details and photos also.  Will answer to inquiries via messages if anyone is interested.  Can probably deliver if desired, for an additional amount after sale. Best offer, anyone?

Added 1/24/18: I got out to the 'Zuki on 1/23/18 at a decent time of the day to take a few shots of it, and swapped some in place of the older ones I had posted back in December.

Looking to get my 1996 Sidekick sport to someone who would like one of these great little vehicles for their own.
Quick details; 1996 Sidekick Sport 4WD 1.8L, 5spd trans, fac. manual hubs, sport wheels, Black/Gold paint 5-door. Power windows, locks, and A/C.
Clean title, central Texas vehicle with zero rust.  Unfortunately it doesn't currently run but was put into storage running just great with a recent new starter installed along with a new all brass radiator to replace the stock one that had a tank crack at the top (vehicle has never been overheated btw). Transmission ailing is what parked it to avoid completely trashing it.  Vehicle  will need some elbow grease and a touch of TLC to to return it to roadworthy state. Plenty of other details to pass on, will answer to SERIOUS inquiries if anyone is interested.  Will provide/post pics ASAP after this ad itself posts, been having trouble getting it to do so (3rd attempt at it ).  Can probably arrange delivery to you as well.  Best offer sale.

Added 12/3/17: Older pics that I found hiding in an old phone I no longer use yesterday.  These shots were taken when I moved it from location where these shots were taken, to where it now resides. Having trouble getting time to get back over to it and get better pics of engine, interior, etc.

If I didn't just buy a rusty  '97 that I'll be in patch welding hell for a while I'd be all over this.

If I did I'd have to find another place to live.. She's not happy I bought the one I have.

Good luck to finding it a home.

It will get to the right party eventually I reckon.  I just wish I had the time to get it back going again. Thought my kid would like it, but noooo...He just had to have an El Camino!!!
Hoping this week I can FINALLY get the additional shots I want to post. Pretty sure a parts hunt for another project is going to get me over by it at a decent hour of the day to take pics.

Re: 1996 Sidekick Sport for sale. Great project ride! UPDATE 4/20/2019

Well....I moved the 'Zuki again yesterday (4/20/2019), now it's closer to me than it's been in some considerable amount of time and have the ability FINALLY, to do something about its situation.
Figured I'd do a little update just because of all the hits the original post got (but not much in replies, or interest in the vehicle, surprisingly..)  I think I'm going to get it back up to running again directly since it doesn't need too much to do it, and in the meantime, make a decision on WTH to do exactly concerning what made me park it in the first place: The Transmission.
Clutch=not an issue for me, but the actual transmission....wellllll, decisions to be made yet there, but I think I'm looking for a good used 5spd manual somewhere, depending on price, and if I can actually find one.
SO! CALLING ALL YOU USED PARTS PEEPS!!!!  I'm on the hunt!!  Anybody here hanging out on the site have a good used 5 speed???

Where in TX? I have one in Galveston. There aren't a whole lot of miles on, since it received new seals, new bearings, and a new input shaft. It will be cheap.

Respond here, then PM if interested.

I'm a day trip away from you in Galveston. is it a 2WD or 4WD trans?  The 2WD one going to do me zero good. But since I have other parts on my mind as well, might you have the rest of the part source the transmission came from?

It's a 4wd manual and I have a couple of transfer cases as well.  I don't have the vehicle anymore, but I kept some parts.  Let me know what you need.

Just a little post update to say a big THANK YOU to RIDJOBRADI!!
Those of you who read this "AD" which has morphed into more of a blog for my Suzuki, do be advised that there's some pretty awesome Suzuki folks hanging around this website, and I got the privilege of meeting one of them.  :)
My desire to return my Sidekick back to duty has been markedly improved with some very righteous and perfectly timed help from one of those awesome folks, and now at some not-too-distant future point my Sidekick gets to rise from a very extended storage period to being BACK ON THE ROAD because of that awesome and perfectly timed help....  BELIEVE!  :) :)
Thanks man!

I've not met any of the folks here in person - that can be challenging when you're on a different continent from most - but, I do agree, the way the folks reach out to help is awesome - I've got parts on my car from at least two different forum members who wouldn't even let me pay the  postage.  It's a great community!!

It was good meeting you and I was happy to help. I look forward to seeing your rig on the road soon. There aren't many of Suzuki guys in Texas.

(5/24/2022) OK, think this may be the last time I post on my Suzuki here since I've really had no bites on it but definitely made a friend or two here over it.....
Life changes folks, and it's time to let go of some things and this Sidekick is one of them.
If I don't find a buyer here, odds are increasingly strong that this rather rare little Suzuki is getting a date with the crusher as sold for scrap.  Think I'll add in some details as to why it's fairly rare though - I had an issue with the ECM a few years back going wonky on me after I discovered a rather deep hole in a low water crossing I was going through that was a pretty hard jolt to the vehicle.  I thought at first it was water that created the misfire that started after bopping that hole and that it would dry out and it would be just fine.....well that never happened, one thing leads to another on the chasing down of the problem and Lo & Behold, the ECM was bad!  So, got the ECM off to a "specialist" fellow in Houston who said he could fix it, and 3 or 4 rounds of sending it to him, getting it back, sending it back to him, getting it back with problem not solved, he couldn't fix it.....
While that was happening, and just because I was already worried that the ECM would be unrepairable anyway, I took the ECM tag number and began looking for another one to just replace my original one, and I discovered along the way that that was a big deal since virtually NO ONE had the replacement ECM for this particular Suzuki.  This Suzuki spent TEN MONTHS not being driven because of this "problem" before I finally found a replacement unit.  Turns out that Suzuki made a batch of about 6100 Sidekick/Sidekick Sports that have this particular ECM in them and this is one of those 6100.  I think the "special" rarity is in the package option it was ordered/made with as I noticed that there's a few things on this vehicle that are not found on many others that I have crossed paths with over the years.  I still have the old ECM btw, and it will go with the vehicle where ever the vehicle winds up going for its next phase of life, or death.

I really don't want to send it to the crusher, it's why I listed it here a few years back now, hoping someone would take it off my hands while thinking that I'd maybe get back around to getting the transmission handled and putting it back on the road.
I'm out of time to fool with it or the idea of getting it back roadworthy anymore, it's my "odd man out" vehicle and it's gotta go.

Interested?  Give me a holler here through messages!!!  Time frame is currently open for now on it but not going to stay that way for long, but there's some other things ahead of it before the bell tolls for it.
A lot more detail(s) on it and about it but it's going to take a Zukiworld message to get them from me.   Hope I hear from ya soon!!!
