Oil pan leak in the front (more complicated than that though)
« on: January 15, 2021, 11:40:20 AM »
:-\   So... Our beloved Tracker has an oil leak.  It is right at the front of the pan where the crank sensor goes through.  About a year ago, right after we bought it I changed the engine, trans and front dif gaskets. I thought it would be nice to park it in a driveway and not leave a mess. Although I bought a gasket I read that I should not use it on this year of Trackick because of a passage that needed to be left open so I used  the Permatex.  I was new at that and didn't get enough in there.  Now I no longer have the equipment or the garage to remove half of the front drivetrain to replace the gasket goo. Has anyone ever drained the oil and dropped just the front of the pan and put in a just enough goo to seal it?  Will I mess up the passage?  Please let me know what you think.

By the way my sealing work was for nothing anyway. Six months ago the the front diff seal went and I had the seal and gasket redone. Then the lock up solenoid quit and I replaced it and the gasket. SO I am learning how fate grins on those who do preventative maintenance.  ;D

I seriously doubt that you can fix that leak without completely removing the pan - you CAN'T just drop the front of the pan without breaking the "rest" of the seal, and you'll just make the leak worse.

Now - I don't understand the comment on not using a gasket because of some passage - are you talking about the oil pan?  As far as I know Suzuki has never used a pan gasket on any of their engines, I assumed a 16v 1.6 because of the reference to the crank position sensor at the front of the pan, and 'trackick" - if that is correct, as far as I'm aware, there are no passages on that pan that need to be left open.

Question - are you sure it's the pan gasket that is leaking - if the oil is coming from the crank sensor area it could just as easily be the cam or crank seal, and the oil running down behind the timing cover and out the crank sensor hole.
