PR: Reno Tuner Concept Showcases Mod Potential
« on: January 05, 2004, 02:17:54 PM »
BREA, CA -From the streets of Los Angeles to blockbuster movies like The Fast and the Furious, Generation Y leads the trend of customizing vehicles to express personal style as well as enhance performance - often on a tight budget. Now, these "tuners" will have a new focus of attention -- the all-new Suzuki Reno five-door crossover vehicle. With an expected MSRP between $13,000 and $15,000, the Reno offers custom-oriented compact buyers unique European styling and seemingly endless customizing potential for thousands less than competing crossover models.

To demonstrate the ease and affordability of creating a personalized version of the Suzuki Reno, the Reno Tuner Concept, a modified version of American Suzuki Motor Corp. (ASMC)'s all-new five-door crossover vehicle, was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Mich.

The Suzuki Reno Tuner Concept pairs an unusual Chameleon Color Shift paint scheme that draws attention rather than blending into the background as the name implies. The Chameleon color paired with dark tinted windows, smoked headlights and taillights and TG Race Designs custom sponsor graphics will leave onlookers wondering, "is it gold or green?" - and, more importantly, "how do I get one?"

Once the unique Chameleon-like color of the concept Reno grabs attention, true tuner enthusiasts will quickly note the other exterior modifications, including 17-inch seven-spoke Chromium Black Primax Sport Max Racing Wheels and contrasting gleaming high-temperature silver brake calipers. Continuing the theme, the Reno Tuner Concept's interior has been color-keyed to match the exterior with Chameleon Color Shift paint accenting the center console, door trim and instrument panel bezels. Other customized interior elements include sporty equipment like APC racing bucket seats wrapped in Enduratex carbon fiber vinyl upholstery and door panel inserts and APC sport race pedals. The high-end sound system utilizes an MA Audio Six Disc CD/DVD Changer System with fully-motorized seven-inch fold-out LCD monitor with AM/FM stereo and TV tuner to pump crystal-clear sound out of four 5¼-inch, 120-watt, full-range MA Audio speakers.

While cosmetic enhancements express personal style, performance enhancements earn street credibility. The Reno Tuner Concept sports a Yoshimura Custom Cat-back Exhaust System coupled with a K&N Typhoon Air Intake System for increased horsepower and torque. To ensure performance handling, the Reno Tuner Concept employs Yokohama AVS ES100 performance tires as well as custom cross-drilled disc brake rotors.

I think that's D-tec... Either way it's seems kind of silly to have two different 2.0 liter engines. Seems backwards to the cost cutting stream lined parts on demand just in time world we live in...

Can't wait to drive one.

Does Suzuki have any say in the design of these rebadges what so ever?  Or are they really Suzukis rebadged as Daewoos?

I was searching about the newest Zook and found info on the Scion instead.  I thought it was applicable, as ASMC is touting this as a "tuner" car for the Gen-Y.

Let's see how it will compare to the Scion (new Toy brand specifically created for Gen X/Y.

The Scion xA lists for $12,965.  What is interesting is the statement from Scion,

"2004 Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price as of 01/05/2004, including the Delivery, Processing and Handling Fee. (Historically, vehicle manufacturers and distributors have charged a separate fee for processing, handling and delivering vehicles to dealerships. Toyota's charge for these services is called the "Delivery, Processing and Handling Fee" and is based on the value of the processing, handling and delivery services Toyota provides as well as Toyota's overall pricing structure. Toyota may make a profit on the Delivery, Processing and Handling Fee.)

This means a savings compared to other traditional auto sales.   That's almost a half grand less than the Reno to start.  Adn the Reno is "around" $13,000 where the Scion is less than.

The Reno does have 18 more ponies, but also gets 10 MPG less.

That's all fine and dandy, and the Revo *might* be a better deal in the long run, But, to say it's the "tuner" choice is light.  The Scion is designed for tuning, and TRD even makes it so:

http://www.scion.com/drive/accessories/drive_access_main.html

From cold air intake to sport shocks and springs, Toyota is offering it right out of the showroom.

I guess what I'm trying to tell Suzuki is, stop trying to be another car company, build the damn Katana 4x4!
