Ya, I think you would like it, I can build
the Header from scratch, I've got the, blank
header flange, and can have more cut, I have
a local steel shop use the computer flame cutter
to make perfect cut outs.

This is what you are going to need.

1. Turbo from a 1.6-1.8L Subaru or MX3 Turbo.

2. Header  $550  Ceramic Coated for durability.

3. Secondary EFI Computer, I'm working with a
MegaSquirt, EFI unit. You can build it yourself
or I can build it for you.

4. Intercooler from a Volvo Turbo, which needs to
be modified to fit, and silicone turbo hose to plumb it.
Coolant lines for the turbo, as well as oil and a return
line into the pan.

5. Can you weld??
6. Is your TrackKick lifted??
7. I recomend Stainless Steel Valves
and a Performance Cam whils the head is off.
Low Compression Pistons would be a + and while
the motor is down a minor rebuild,(bearings, rings)

is this your only car ?? it will be down for several weeks
most likely while you get this done.

It's an involved process, the hardest of which is the
header and intercooler, followed by the EFI system.

Nothing Money can't buy I would guess about $1400-1600
depending on how much you can do yourself.

Well Yes and no on a week, The inter cooler
perriscopes over the radiator, lifted is much
easier to route the intercooler lines.

The intercooler also needs new end tanks fabricated
out of .050 aluminum sheeting, so any welding will
have to be with TIG on this part. Also I don't know how
you would route the IC lines, the front of a Kick is pretty
tight.

You can drop the pan with the engine still in the truck, but
you also got to drop the front driveline  :( , you got to have
a return line ABOVE the oil level or the returning oil will back
up and blow the seals.

Cams are available from Hawks, I had mine re-profiled, made
a big difference. Mine cost $200 to have done, now you can
get them for about $150 without waiting a week to get yours
redone.

you need lots more fuel to feed the monster, about double your
current rate, and the stock Mikuni TBI can't do it, the secondary
EFI computer controls 4 additional injectors that feed only under
boost. My computer is set at 1.5 PSI but you can change that
easily with a computer and the MegaTune Program.

Ya, if you were totally ready and didn't run into any snags,
it could be done in a week, I had to engineer this and it took
me about 4 weeks to get it all together, but I had to source parts
and stuff, if you had a dead TrackKick to mock up on you could
get it all worked out and bolt it onto the running truck in a few days,
It's the custom fabrication that will snag you, not the parts themselvs,
it all depends on your ability and skills, and your local tool and steel
supplier, and if you have to wait for stuff.

So, how much different would it be to put a turbo on a 1.6L 16 valve?

The motor is the same bottom end, with 16V
pistons, so the process is similar, I need a
pattern for the 16V exhaust flange to build a
header, the 16V swap was going to be one of
my next steps, the only problem I forsee is the
lack of a secondary EFI system, tho a MegaSquirt
could be used instead of the stock EFI computer,
and then programmed to run the whole vacuume
thru boost range, Intercooler and other lines would
be in the same locations.

As far as I know, the footprint for the exhaust flanges are the same - well, I've heard that anyway.  So you're saying replace the stock ECM with a MegaSquirt?

How much $$$ are we talking here?

The MegaSquirt EFI is a DIY EFI system, about $140
total not assembled, or $250 Assembled add sensors
and some 30-35 PPH injectors and tune, tuning is one
of the hard parts, but there is lots of help from the
board at Yahoo
