Shift cable issues
« on: December 12, 2016, 01:58:06 PM »
Hey guys new to forum. been wanting a small SUV for Daily driving and small offroading trips like hunting and fishing so I picked up A 2002 chevrolet tracker 2 door zr2 with the soft top 2.0l auto (700$ with a parts truck which also doesn't have cable) been driving for about 3 weeks but temperature has dropped well below 0°c here in New Brunswick Canada and the cable from the shifter to the transmission has frozen on me and it broke twice now and I'm looking at buying a cable I priced up the new one at my work (Chevrolet dealer) at my price it's $204 for a new cable! Now I have been looking online it says that the 2.5l(6cyl) is different length I want to know if anyone has tried to use it with any luck on a 2.0l I don't see why they would be different lengths? Only asking cause i can get a new 2.5l cable for $45! And how it would affect it if any! Any info would be awesome or a after market cable or something I could modify lightly to make work thanks! Also has 2inch body 1 inch suspension lift if it matters.

Found a cable at junk yard finally but they broke it when taking off... so new plan we have lots off old plow truck parts around so I have managed to find a "push pull" cable and have begun making my own cable and mounts. these cables can be had for under 50$ here just make sure you have enough throw in cable. made own eye end so far out of steel to thread onto the end and hook to shifter now need to pull tracker in to the garage and make mount brackets will hopefully have pictures and a truck on road by Monday -36 here today
