Hey guys i am new to Samurais and just picked one up to turn into a trail/streetable rig. picked up a great shape 1991 Samurai with the 1.3l fuel injected set up for 1k it has 65,000 miles on it n half of that was towed behind an RV. It is a 2wd model but as i have a set of 4:10 toyota axles i will be installing as well as YJ springs i read the conversion is quite simple. here is a list of what i plan on running and you thoughts and input would b great. I do have access to machining equipment and have my own fab equipment, but i want this to be a simple reliable set up not tryin to go over 4k on total build including truck.
SOA kit
stock YJ leafs
toyota axles 4:10 gears
was thinking of running a GRSII tranfers case with 4.89 gears since i need a tranfer case anyway
15x8 eagle wheels i got dirt cheap
and Kenda race cut 32x11.5 tires
winch up front
build a roll cage
got a killer deal on stainless header for the 1.3
fab my own steering and shock towers
Trail tough yj hanger and shackle kit
bedline inside and paint outside
rocker guards fab my own skid plates and transfer case brace
does this sound decent for something still street driven for gearing and tire size? so far im into this lil truck for 41700 including axles leafs wheels and tires.
Also i know everyone says dump the 1.3 for a 1.6 but i have access to a full engine machine shop and read that you can put in the 1.6 exhaust valves and shaved the stock head to give a lil better performance and head flow. i could do the valves and had shave for free so if it will yield any benefit i will give it a shot. may even throw in a cam if its worth it. let me know what you guys think. thanks
