15x8 235x75x15
« on: April 18, 2016, 02:38:28 AM »
Hello Guys, i am new to the forum and new  to the world of 4x4. My name is Andreas and i am from Cyprus (small island in the Mediterranean).
I was looking for some assistance if any of you can help me with.i bought a stock Suzuki Samurai that i am currently rebuilding slowly slowly.i am trying to figure what wheels and tires i need to put with the stock height.i found a good deal on 15x8 and 235x75x15  and i am not sure if it will fit or not.i researched a lot before i post and the only thing i found was stock height  stock wheels with 235 that fits ok just some mild trimming.i am planning soon to put shackles or a body lift if this is what needs for these wheels and tires to fit.since i am not planning to use the car for pure offroad too much of a height is not in the future plans.
P.S its my daily driver and i use it for  mild off roading every now and then, nothing special
Thank you very much and any help will be very much appreciated,
Andreas

Andreas,

235x75R 15's should be no major problem.
You have mentioned 1 of the 2 easy ways for a lift,
longer spring shackles, which can be made out of 3/8 " Bar Stock.

The other is if there are "Donor Samurai's" in your area, add one leaf to each spring set,
use the first leaf below the main leaf, or if you have access to a cut off saw/tool,
use the main leaf and cut the eyes off both ends. This is going to stiffen up the ride a bit,
But the big advantage is, doing this will help stop the main leafs from bending
just behind the spring Eye, while off roading.

Thank you Capt.
i am struggling to finish the restoration first and then concentrate on the mechanical parts of the car but its good to know that there is another way. you mean welding on the existing leaf springs another leaf right?I do like a stiff ride but i dont know if the girlfriend will approve!

What I Mean is, you are going to add another (Extra) leaf to the spring stack.
No Welding !! Welding Springs is a BAD THING.
At the frame, Jack the corner you are going to work on up.
Remove the 2 U bolts holding the axle to the spring stack.
Remove the small center bolt holding spring leafs together.
Now add this (Extra) leaf in the stack just under the main leaf (The one still attached to vehicle at the eye bolts)
You might need a longer center bolt to put the spring stack back together.
Hint squeeze the stack back together with a C clamp.
You should be able to reuse the U bolts adding only one leaf.
Now repeat on the other 3 leaf springs.

Happy Trails

Ah ok now i see .well that sounds easy and i will definitely try that in the near future and see how it goes.is the car going to stiffen more with these wheels also?
