Need help with x-90 lift
« on: July 29, 2015, 07:48:34 PM »
Have a 96 x-90, we put a 4.5" lift kit in it from rocky-road(2" body lift with 2.5" suspension). We were told 30x9.5 R 15 tires would fit but they massively hit the rear of the front fenders, can turn the wheel maybe 2 inches before it hits.
The tires are mounted on ion rims.

Anyone have this issue? do you have to cut and modify the fenders?

The X90 has less clearance than a Track/Kick, you will have to cut and bash or look into the Hagen mod.

4xfourart (EU) and AlteredEgo (Cdn) makes front arms that are bolt on, and move the from wheel 2cm-3cm forward.

Probably won't ben enough for those tires, but look into it.

Most of us that build lift kits make the arm so the tire is an inch foreward

I built a pad to move the ball joint forward 1 1/2" & out 3/4" to allow fitting 33's, which still required modifying fender wheel arch.  Here is how I increased the wheel arch.  http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/build-diaries-how-to-diy/how-to-enlarge-tracker-wheel-openings/msg275274/#msg275274.
I was running 30-9.5-15's on my 93 tracker without moving the ball joint or cutting the fenders.  Obviously the X90 has much tighter clearances.
93 Tracker,XL7 springs & 1" raised spring pads in front with YJ springs in back, home built bumpers rear & front (w/winch), 2" x 4" rock tubes,  ARB front & rear, converted Sami rear to IFS, 33x12.5x15  aluminum rims, roll cage, 2.7L w/5 speed auto.

I used a 4" cutting wheel & cut out aprox 3" of body. Did this infront & behind the doors. Then riveted in a 1" rubber flair. No more problems. BTW, Tires are 33'X10.5

I managed to put 35 12.50's on my X-90, with only a 2" suspension lift, and no body lift. You can get your tires to clear, by removing the inner plastic, cutting, and pounding back the fender wells (that your feet rest on, on the interior of the car). Then you can fiberglass over the cut area, to fill it in. You also will need to cut the fenders accordingly. I did not have to modify my a-arms either. Hope this helps.

The body metal for a X90 is hard to come by. I highly recommend you don't "hack" it all up.  I would drop tire size before I gutted the complete fender .  I like to off road & for the effort I expect my X90 to out perform a stock one. Larger tires are a big part of the mod. But to limit turning while driving over dips & rough areas is not a option to go big.

Here are a few examples of different tires on X90s with different lifts. Note; 3 of the 4 pictured have 3" body lift.
