Transmission slipping
« on: December 05, 2015, 03:47:29 PM »
My 1996 Tracker auto transmission slips in first gear in the (drive position), but if I manually put it into first, and upshift to drive after it does just fine. It does accelerate from a stand still in drive, but requires a lot more throttle, versus starting from manual 1st. Is there an adjustment that can be made to fix this, from the outside of the tranny? The reverse gear, and all others work normally. Any input would be much appreciated.

sounds like you burnt the bands in the tranny turning the 35s.  try new tranny filter and oil or rebuild or new tranny or just shift manually till it lets go

Actually I purchased this tranny off of Ebay, and it was like that since the day I installed it. Since it was shipped to me dry, I put new fluid in it, after installing it. However, I did not change the filter. I was hoping that there might be an external band adjustment, but I guess not......kind of sucks for me. It drives fine, as long as I manually shift it,  although, it would be nice just to be able to drop it in drive, and go.
