anyone know if things like axles, transfer cases, tranny's, etc. will interchange with an LJ or SJ platform suzuki?  looking for things like rear locker, skid plates, lift kits, etc.  thanks!

best guess is a 1992  model.  reason i say that is in Japan they break these down to component parts.  these are literally bolted together when originally built with the exception of the welds in the cab body.  when they are done with them there, they disassemble them and the parts are loaded into 40ft containers.  bodies in one, chassis  in another, engine/transmission assemblies in another, etc.  next they are shipped here to the Philippines and other places where the various parts are bolted back together again to make a whole truck.  most sellers/buyers here just use the date on the seat belt tag to ascertain a reasonably close date of original manufacture.  ???
yeah, crazy, right?!  :o

thanks for the reply  8)

i see they have 12 valve engine so most of the parts probably arent interchangeable. I'm sure theres a few though. maybe the axles or driveline.

post up some pics when you get it.

i sure will post pics.
i knew the engine was different except for the very earliest suzukies that were imported to the US back in the mid to late 1960's, iirc.  i was hoping the axles, transfer case, and maybe even the transmission on the carry was the same as on the later samurai's.  we'll see.

great!  the pics are here!   :D
now about my little truck, 660cc's of pure, raw, uh... well... it runs really smooth and cruises nicely at about 50mph.  no tach but i plan on getting one soon, very soon.  most importantly, it has the 2 speed transfer case with shift-on-the-fly 4wd Hi.  really need it here on the marginally improved mountain back roads.  i'm just needing the right tires that will best fit my needs.  155R12 street tires are fine, but a more aggressive tread pattern is required.  i'll probably go with 185/75R13's as there are so many more options in that size here.  also, i'm considering locating one of the electric diff-lock rear axles and having it bolted up for some extra traction.
my best guess is that when these things are disassembled in Japan, the plastic ventilation duct work, circulating fan, and electricals for those are removed.  even the fresh air intake hole in the firewall has a plate welded over it.  so, of course, it gets pretty warm up front.  plan is to cut the intake hole open again and rig up some sort of tubing to direct fresh air flow where i want it.  additionally, i want to make another opening in the seat tower right under the drivers seat.  the engine is offset and sits right under the seat.  here i will install a computer case fan to help move the engine heat from under the seat toward the rear under bed area of the truck.  hope all this works out.  if it does i'll post up more pics showing my "handiwork".
so, about the only thing left will be a radio and speakers for some tunes.  the standard am radio works, but i'll find something small with usb/mp3 capabilities for real music.
ok, guess that's about it for now.   8)
