Engine question
« on: September 27, 2012, 04:32:59 AM »
I bought my 88 Samurai with a 1991 1.6 Tracker EFI engine installed.  How can I tell if it is 8 valve or 16 valve without removing the valve cover.

Thanks

Wade

8 valve has a black painted steel valve cover.
the 16 valve has a finned aluminum one.

The 16 valve cover is not finned, the easiest way is to recognize the difference is the 16V has spark plug holes in the valve cover, the 8 valve VC's do not as the 8v heads have the plugs on the side of the head by the exhaust ports.

The 16Vs say "16 VALVE" right on the top of the valve cover.
The 8Vs valve cover looks just like a samurai valve cover.
