Samurai transfer case with 6.5:1 gears
« on: September 22, 2012, 07:12:19 PM »
SOLD

I'm selling the transfer case I had in my Samurai; I installed new 6.5:1 gears ($500) a updated front output shaft ($90), new bearings and seals ($100), and a brass shifter sheet ($30) about 2 years ago.  I have since driven the Samurai about 9,000 miles (mostly on the highway, with a few wheeling trips mixed in).   I had it in a mighty kong mounting bucket, so it was well protected; it looks great and has no damage.  I drained the oil after the first 500 miles (it was clean) and again a couple of weeks ago when I pulled the case (still clean).  I comes fully assembled and ready to go (except for oil, and you will need to swap in your 4wd shifter switch too as my new donor case didn't come with one).  It comes with early small pattern flanges.
I was running 31's and a stock 1.3L in my samurai; recently upgraded to an 8 valve 1.6L and I feel like the 6.5:1's are too low at highway speeds for the new power of the 8 valve.  So, I switched to 4.9:1's.  I have no reason to keep a built 6.5 tcase in my shop collecting dust...so its up for sale.

I'm asking $450 for it (cash only).  This is about 1/2 of what it would cost to purchase the same case used and build it with the same components...and you'll save on the installation time and case machining that is necessary for 6.5's.

I'm located just a bit east of Seaside, OR.
I am driving through Portland, Salem, Bend, La Pine, etc. on my way to Powerfest on Friday, 9/28.  I could deliver the case on any of those days anywhere along that route.  Shoot...I could even deliver it to powerfest, and help you install it on Friday night so you've got new low gears for wheelin' on Saturday!
I would prefer a local transaction, but if I still have the case for sale after a few weeks I'll consider crating it up and shipping it.

PM me with any questions.  Thanks!
