Remove some of the coolant, sounds overcharged.
93 4dr Kick, stock, + 95 4dr W/TTough kit, Toy axles, 4.24 xfercase gears, 5.71 gears, Ramsey 9500 winch, twin stick xfercase, 33" BFG's
97, 4dr with a 2" lift (needs an engine re-build)

Does this car's compressor have a pressure release valve? Is that what the hissing was?

I don't know, you may have blown the seals. When you remove some coolant, if it has no pressure then a seal is blown.

I had a similar experience with my V6 - the belt was definitely slipping.  I vented some refrigerant and it works ok now, but the belt must have got polished, because it slips in damp weather.  Going to replace the belts this week.

I think the pressure indicators on these cheap kits are unreliable.
'98 GV V6, '96 X-90 with RRO 2.5" lift and 195/80 R15, '93 Cappuccino.
