Rollin' on dubs (pic)
« on: May 11, 2012, 07:08:57 AM »
Just for the heck of it.  Jumped on a very good deal for these 20x12's to fit our 04' Ram.  Had some 35" AT's and threw them on and I just "had" to see what the sami would look like.

Actual measurements 31 tire vs 35 tire is additional 3" of ground clearance.  I am sure this truck would float with this much tire!

This is my normal setup: relocated (higher) shock mounts 31's with front YJ swap w/missing link (this pic is prior to doing the rear YJ swap).  I will swap to a 33 eventually.

Also I uploaded a few short video clips

Sami

More videos on my youtube page here

... any comments???

It really doesn't look bad. It's mainly the lack of wheel well clearance that looks off.

I have a couple other pictures at different angles I will upload. They sure are heavy!

The front is where things do not look proportional. 2-3" body may correct it if one wanted to run them. Reminds me of a tonka toy.

I have heard that as well from kids, the only thing I can think of was decades ago the inner city/ghetto slang for a 20$ bag of pot was a dub.

I run 34's but not on the 20" rim. I like the more tire look vs the more rim lower profile tire look. On yours I like the off road tire look much better that the all terrain style tire. JMO.....

I agree.  I like the more aggressive/off-road look.  Its always a trade off right? ...Wheel-well clearance is needed with my suspension setup.  I just dont think the 31's look correct with the body mass... esp. when the hard top is on.  33/34 would be better suited IMO but I would need some body lift to keep my flex I would imagine.

What type of terrain do you wheel with 34's and are they MT or ?  ...Im not against running 35's and adding body lift.  I just enjoy climbing wash outs/sand hills and dont want to go too far with axle strain.  I can tell you those 35's handle 100% better than the 31s I have... plus with the added surface area (13" wide vs 9"), lift (3"), and mass... they would probably get the sami through more stuff off-road.

I like the look too, but I'm surprised they are heavy, well compared to your 31's. I would think less tire and more rim would weigh less, but it still looks cool. I always thought my Tracker would handle a lot better with 18/20 " rims and a total tire height of about 33. I may have to look into that. I think you got something there  >:D
The usual stuff, and 2nd generation Air to liquid intercooled TURBOCHARGER

I run TSL Super Swampers... terrain is mostly mud holes / river, creek beds, logging roads. I am RUF / SPUA with some Virtual trimming. Because of the Sammi short wheelbase I want to stay low so that the stability triangle isn't adversely effected to the point that climbing a hill or two and maybe getting a little sideways isn't a problem...
