Hello, I have a 1987 Suzuki Samurai. When I bought it, I had a slight noise coming from underneath my butt, that disappeared at 45+ mph. I recently decided to fix it, but am having issues finding where it is coming from. Any advice or help would be awesome. Here are the facts for the rear end.

Samurai rear sprung over with YJ Jeep eater kit. Stock Samurai  axle, 4:56 gears, ARB Locker. Recently replaced the bearings & seals. Stock rear drive-line with spacer. Made sure the drive-line markings are aligned. Let me know what you guys think it could be.

No, its dumped before the axle... It almost sounds like something is not balanced... It has a high and low noise, so it is not the same loudness consistently, so its something turning... Could it be my pinion bearing?

Another member was hearing a sound from the same spot and he found that the sleeve at the tail shaft of his trans was loose and spinning making a noise. Not saying thats it but you can check.

Before you tear your Zuke apart. Make sure that your exhaust isn't making contact with the tub or frame........

Lol its not the exhaust. I drove it front wheel drive yesterday, not the rear end or tranny, think its the rear out put shaft of the tcase, taking it apart today.

what did you find was causing the noise??? just curious.

Sounds similar to what was happening to me.  The problem on my 87 sami was the u-joints on the short driveshaft (the one going from tranny to transfer case).  They were bone dry and locking up and low speeds, and would break free at higher speeds and ride semi-normal.  The movement in the driveshaft made the dust sleeve on the front yolk to break free and cause squeeking/rattling sounds.

Still looking. Good news is I am finding things needing to be fixed as I go. So I am going to have a brand new rig by summer. I have only had this Samurai for three weeks, and have had the rear dif. out, rear axles out, t-case out, transmission out, and drive shafts out... I only have the front axle and engine left before I have taken this thing completely apart... LOL

I just took the transmission out yesterday, I noticed my clutch is bright blue from heat and worn, so I am going to replace that, & my fly wheel is bright blue and missing teeth so that's getting replaced as well.

Also, for anyone thinking about an ARB, FYI they are super easy to work on. Mine had a leak after checking the pinion bearing, but even without instructions, they are self explanatory on taking them apart.
