Young wheelers, best way to mount a child seat in back?
« on: January 20, 2012, 08:23:26 AM »
My boy is turning 2 soon and I'd like to be able to strap him in and get him outside with me on some easy trails soon.  Has anyone done or seen a safe mount for a child seat in the rear of a Sammi?  I will be fully caged in the rear and the stock bench does not need to stay if its safer to hard mount a child seat as a stand alone in the middle.  Just curious if anyone else has tackled this and what has been done before.  All ideas welcome.

The coolest set up I have see was in a friends YJ. He built a riser out of cage tubing and mounted the car seat to it directly behind and between the front seats (where her feat rested on the center console). With this set up, she could see out the front and sides of his jeep to enjoy the scenery and was well protected by the full roll cage.

Back when I used to have a buggy I would take my kids seat and ratchet strap it to the back seat. I bet you could do the same thing in a samurai. Maybe use the frame of the seat to hook into. If you put one strap around the bottom front and another one around the rear on the seat it is really solid.
