Fog lights factory option??????
« on: December 27, 2011, 04:23:12 PM »
Does anyone know if the Factory ever put out a fog light option for this body style?  I would imagine somewhere in the world Suzuki would have done this and probably made a real nice and neat switch for the dash.
I am hoping so that way I can get the oem style switch and hook up some with a relay.

Thanks

To the best of my knowledge, US first gen models were never offered with a fog light option, however, a rear fog light was available on the European market models, and you might be able to pick up a switch on ebay.

By the way - the vehicle was known as a Vitara in Europe - so that's what you have to search for.

Looks like my switch, it automatically turns off the fog light when the ignition is turned off - all vehicles should be like that!

Thanks for the info.  Any idea if the Canadian version had that option?  Also did anyone know that you can still buy this bodystyle down in Columbia and Equador brand new from Chevrolet?  I thought that was pretty cool when I found out.  The price on the GM site shows it to be about $18k for one.  There were some pretty neat options that were avail from the General as well.  Too bad we can't order any of it thru the dealers here.

Can you bring them up north if you buy one down there?  I thought the general rule was 15 years old for Canada, and 25 down here in the US.

I was talking to some parts people and they said that you probably would be able to get ahold of a dealer down there and order parts to have shipped up here but not sure if you would be allowed to drive a whole car thru customs.   I just think that the whole idea of the 1st gen trackick is still in production.  Tells me that it must be pretty decent on durability.

Check out www.gm.com and link yourself to world wide operations for South America.  I personally love the snorkel and the front bull bar style bumper.  I would like to know more about the springs and shocks avail but my spanish sucks really bad.:)

Yes, there were factory fog lights on some models.  I have a switch or two from the dash.  They look like the ones in your ebay link.
I am trying to remember if the foglight harness is part of the main wiring harness or if it is its own separate harness.  I think it is a separate harness.
I believe the fog lights were usually mounted on a factory add-on brush guard/push bar.  My 95 4 door had the center part of the brush guard on it, when I bought it.  I think it also had the fog light switch in the dash too....but it's been too long ago to remember for sure.  I know it didn't have fog lights on it, when I bought it though.  From what I recall, the PO said he either broke one and took the other one off, or just took them both off and trashed them.  :(
