CB Radio Mounts
« on: September 07, 2011, 12:12:40 PM »
Hey guys, does anyone have any pictures of cb's in their track/kick?
I was thinking about doing a smaller unit and trying to fit it in the ashtray slot but wanted to see if there was an easier/quicker way to install.
Also how did you run/mount the antenna?

right now mine is setup to run with the 12v socket for power and a mag mount antenna. its ok, range sucks with the antenna (cheapy 24" walmart one) it sits next to my transfer case shifter under the ebrake. (cobra 19dx) looking at mounting it under the center console right infront of the shifter, needs some trimming for it to fit but it will be tucked nicely in.

cb is setup to be plugged in when needed. once i get ahold of a nice 48"whip its going next to the rear gate above the taillight, theres a cover there with 2 holes behind it im going to build a mount for.

I thought about doing a plug-in set up, but I just figured I'd go ahead and run the wires since I'd be doing it for the coax any ways. I read a thread somewhere about mounting it on the center console, back where the rear ash trey is.
I was also thinking about one of those semi portable ones that can plug in like your talking about and then have a battery back to take out of the car with you.
And I've got a buddy with a magnetic antenna and his reception sucks also, i was going to do a whip.
Do you have a quick pic of where the cb is sitting now?

I just ordered the upper storage shelf from Damn Good Ideas to provide a perfect location to mount the CB.  http://damngoodidea.net/store/product.php?productid=4&cat=4&page=1

Talon, how are you going to "hide" the coax? I was going for a clean mostly no wires showing set up.
That's a sweet idea though.

I will drill a hole in the windshield frame close to the mirror and run everything through the chassis. I have already run all the speaker wires up the pass side "A" pillar, through the upper door sill and then down the "B" pillars into the rear side panels. There is plenty of room for a coax cable to pass across to the drivers side, pass above the door, cross over to the pass side through the targa bar and down the pass side "B" pillar and back to the rear door.

You could go with a unit like the Cobra 75 where the entire unit is in the dash and all the controls are on the mic.

I received the DGI upper storage shelf and had it installed in about 2 minutes. I did need 2 screws that were a little longer to remount the mirror with the storage tray between it and the chassis. I will take a few pics when i get the radio mounted up.
