I would call a wrecking yard and tell them you have an old camero with a 2.8 and see what they say! I also think that there was two different blocks around that time and the only thing different was the sides of the block where the engine mounts are, other than that the transmissions should be the same and a two wheel drive trans should go right in a Sammie.

There are a few out there, but I haven't seen any write-ups.  Most conversions use the 2.7 or 2.5 from a Grand Vitara or XL7.

Just so you know the GM 2.8l engine isn't that great an engine especially out of an S10. In addition to my tracker I also own a 2.8 V6 Fiero. It sounds awesome and would have plenty of power for a zuk but it's still not the best choice for a swap.
The first problem with the s10 2.8 is it doesn't have the High Output heads of the Fiero.
The second problem with 2.8's in general is the oil passages in the block are too small. This causes high RPM oiling issues and possibly main/rod bearing failure if you're not careful.
2.8l Fiero iron heads, intake, and accessories bolt up to the infinitely better 3.4pr block out of early 90's camaros.
These engines are MUCH heavier than a modern I4 and get somewhat less than stellar gas mileage. I get about 28mpg in an 86 fiero GT with muncie 4spd. Wind resistance in a tracker would probably drop that MPG like a rock.

If I were to do any engine swaps in a zuk I'd be looking for a modern lightweight I4 or V6 to increase power AND mpg. The only way I'd go with old school iron in one of these little rigs would be for a lowered RWD on road monster.

If your gonna start cutting and remounting everything why not just drop a 4.3 in there if your want a V6.

Just because you have it doesn't make it a good swap.  A small, lightweight aluminum 4 cylinder is the best choice for the Samurai.  If you want a big cast iron engine, you'll need a bigger vehicle.

I have a 2.8 in a blazer sitting out back because of the clutch cable has some funky ratcheting device hooked to it that slips while your at a stop light, not fun. and have a couple of bronco II's one has a 2.8 and two have the 2.9 with fuel injection that seem to be allot better but not liking the two wheel drive (dummy transfer case hooked to the back of it) transmission, would be nice to see a 2wd car trans made for one.
