Picking up a Tracker thats been sitting/?s
« on: November 27, 2011, 07:42:52 PM »
Hey everyone going to pick up a 91? I think tracker from my brother next Friday. Has been sitting for about 1-1.5 yr without running. He had the head rebuilt and head gasket replaced and never followed through on the restore. Planning on tune up, oil change, change filters,  drain fuel etc. Any particular problem areas to look for on these? I had built a Sammy Rock Crawler back in 2000 and ended up selling it. One of those ..Why did I sell it? type things. Anyways any pointers appreciated

My current rig sat for 3-4 years before I bought it.  What I did... drain any fuel out of the tank, fresh fuel with SeaFoam treatment, new plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor. got it running enough to warm up the oil, did an oil change. Keep an I on the oil, if it gets dark really fast, change it again. After 50 - 100 miles chang oil in the differentials and tranny.  Sucked brake fluid out of resivoir, pumped new fluid through all the lines.  New fuel filter.

and then...

drive it like you stole it :)

Exhaust and brake lines rust out pretty bad when it sits. E-brake cables might be frozen. Brake adjusters and caliper slider pins should be checked too.

Depends a lot on what kind of ground it sat on and where in the country.
