Hi Steer - sometimes referred to as Over The Top (OTT) steering is effective in eliminating bumpsteer.  It also gives the added benefit of moving the tierod above the axle and out of the way of road obstacles.

Check out this webpage:

I hope that this helps!

That was hugely helpful!!! Thanks!

Matt

Stay with gas if you live in Kali as you do now have to smog diesels!!!

If you do convert, you must use a motor from a newer vehicle and it must meet the smog year for that motor, not the vehicle.

Thats why I'm going with a 1.6 8v in my 86 from a 93. You can't really tell its there :D
I think I had a motorcycle that was heavier!!

Diesel Smog Check - Effective 01/01/2010: All Diesel vehicles, cars and trucks 1998 and newer, and weighing under 14,500 GVW will need a diesel smog check. All California certified smog check stations can perfrom the Diesel Smog Check. The diesel smog test will not include the emissions test portion of the regular inspection. There will be no tailpipe emissions inspection or smog test. Dynamometer testing will not be part of the diesel smog check

I have done my Dmax already. One reason I got it was to not worry about smog tests!!! Heck, they are towing vehicles off the road with things like Cats removed!!

Now back to smoging the sami. If you had to test before, you will still have to test, even with a diesel swap.

It must tested be for the year of the motor, which must be newer than the vehicle it is in. Plus you are putting a motor in a vehicle it never came in. So a trip to the referee is in store.

IE; I have a 1987 El Camino that came with a 305 V8, I have a 2002 5.3 truck motor for it. It is a direct swap since it is a truck to truck and a newer motor. I must smog it as a 2002 now.

I put a 4.3 into an S10 Blazer that had a 2.8ltr. Same family motor, newer year, passed smog with flying colors!!

Do the gas and don't tell   :sleepy:

not exactly..... the smog test in CA is based on what year the computer says the engine is.
On a 1.6 16v engine, this is how you can get away with running a newer OBDII engine with a OBDI computer.

I've never been into a smog station where the person could tell what year a 1.6 16v engine was by looking at it.
They just go on what year the computer tells them them engine is.
