lift and tire opinions
« on: September 18, 2011, 09:42:27 PM »
I am looking for others opinions on my tire selection..I have a 94 sammy all stock..I need new tires, I have the stock 205s on it. I am thinking of putting a 3 inch under spring lift on it and 235 tires..How are these going to effect my gear ratio? If its going to change it to much what is the biggest tire with the stock gearing and still keep in drivable?
Does anyone have any pictures of similar setup..thanks Dan

It is going to throw your speedometer off by 6-10%.  You loose a little bit of power, but it's not bad.  You don't need a lift to run the 235/75 R15 tires, but you may have to trim your front bumper a bit without one.

Really Drone, 6-10%   My 35's only throw the speedo of 5mph |removethispart|@ 50mph... (I'm actually running 55.) Thats 10% for a tire that is hugh in size difference compared to a 235. I am running stock gears for now too. :P dangit...

My gas mileage is pretty decent although I have never checked it for an actual figure... (it is a 1.6 8V though)

I would think he wouldn't notice much difference in any area except maybe the bumper.

I know I didn't when I put 235's under my Vitara....

I want to put a small lift on instead of trimming anything..I think it looks a little better with a lift. Im not really concerned about the speedo being off, Im real concerned about losing a bunch of power (since it doesnt have much anyway) and not being able to use 5th gear anymore..

If your going to run 235's and a minimal lift i would look at these methods for a lift:

Add a Leaves 2"

Longer Shackles 4"

Body lift 1"

These will get you want you want with minimal amount of work and expense.

And.... no ill given side effects....

Stock tire size is 205/70/15, 26.3", and  235/75/R15 is 28.9".  So it should be 9% off.  But in reality it will vary by company and tire, Swampers I find are almost always smaller then they claim.  On my Tracker with Toyo All-Terrains the speedometer is 6% slow.  A buddy found his speedometer was fast from the factory, I think he went with 225/70/R15 tires and it brought it right into spec.

Normally, I would agree with you .... but a 235 x 15 compared to a 9.5 x 35 x 15 are miles apart even if Swampers run small. (they ain't that small) LOL...

An Add a Leaf is a short arched spring that is added to the bottom of the spring pack to help re-arch the springs. Most auto parts stores can get these or you can find the on Ebay, JC Whitney, & Summit Racing to name a few...
