My first suzuki. 1988 samurai. What do you think?
« on: September 14, 2011, 09:58:17 AM »
Hey guys. Im new to the forum but ive been looking around for a while. Today I finally noticed an add on craigslist for a 1988 suzuki samurai. Heres the info it has listed-

"1988 suzuki samurai 4WD, 1.6L engine conversion, 2" leaf spring lift, newer black wagon wheel rims, newer 30" BFG All terrain tires, new rear custom bumper, 2 soft tops, clean interior, brakes recently replaced, newer shocks, heat works, no AC, power steering runs great, little to no rust for the year. solid daily driver and off road toy."

The body is in great shape, the interior is in great shape and it all checks out to me. I can talk him down to about 2300 i think.
So what do you all think. Thanks, Robert.

Did you end up buying the Sammi?

I just bought my first Sammi last Wednesday and i love it, one thing i would warn you to look at is the differentials, if possible put the vehicle in nuetrel and get under the sammi (make sure the it does not roll over you, block the tires) and try and shake the driveshafts back and forth to see if there is any play.  If there is alot of play then the pinion bearing could be bad and if it has been driven around like that for a while you may need to rebuild the diff, cause the play can cause gears to be stripped.  If this is true you can fix it but keep in mind the price will have to reflect that.

Im sure there are other things to look at as well, i hope this helped.

Make sure it will pass smog. If you have a bad computer or other emissions control parts you can open a small fortune on them.
