Hey guys been a member for a while but you guys answer most of my questions in the forums but I'm tired of searching this one.
OK here goes, I have a 95 tracker 16 valve automatic 4x4 w/ cal emissions. This vehicle has been a burden for years kinda like voodoo poonany. Awesome when its working but more trouble then what its worth when its not.
Well my whole problem started with the bad woodruff key in the crank. (70,000 mi) Beyond repair I decided to have a new crank put in by a local shop since I'm rarely in state to work on it. Crank was put in they had the cam gear set at the I instead of E. lol They swore that the timing was good that it was the computer. 300 later at a diff shop they found the cam gear out of time. Fixed?!?! Well not really they got it back together and running. And wow there's a leak at the front main!! err I replaced the front main seal. And wow a year later 1000 dollars + my labor and time it runs. I drove it approximately 5000 miles and the crank breaks (autozone) since the crank was over a year old they wouldn't warranty the labor just the crank. It broke on the second journal.
At this point I figure s^&( rebuild this motor and it will last long enough. So I just got the motor back dropped it in and 6 hours later its ready (I think I can pull this motor with my eyes closed now lol) I try firing and it only turns over. Found a ground unattached fixed it. Set the distributor timing. When i went to start it sounded like it was going to fire then back to just turning over. With the pedal to the floor it would almost run. I figured that the cam timing was off again (exact same symptom) Well I just got it back together and it is doing the same. Almost running but cant let starter disengage.
At this point I call a zuk friend had him bring his over and double check all my wires and hoses. (His isn't the Cali and i assume that is why i have a extra 3/16 bung on the back of my upper intake? This is the only one not hooked up and if someone knows where or if I have to route this please let me know I see nowhere for it to run. The hose is about 16 inches long. Maybe somewhere on the back of the motor? When looking at his it said on the hood to ground a circuit when timing? My Chilton's says nothing.
As you can imagine this tracker is on my %$& list!!! Never would've thought with only 80,000 miles. lol I bought it with 70000 5 years ago. lol 2000 mile a year average.
