4.24:1 gear install benefit.
« on: May 26, 2011, 06:04:53 AM »
interesting-
i modified and installed a '93(i believe) transfer case into my '89 kick.
since i had put on 31" tires, my speedo was no longer accurate- read low.

this corrected my speedometer reading.
i was surprised.
it's now right on the money.

?
'89 kick w/little motor, still got pieces of jeff's pucks, stan's sticks into 4.24:1 tcase, 31x10.5x15's, rear lockrite, kick power steering, some radios(kj6esv), bmw seat, other changes just because. done on the cheap.
suzi the psychic gets me fishing.

Since the speedo drive gear is in the T-case, I would guess that one is from a Manual
trans and the other is from auto trans, that is the only thing I can think of

i never thought to ask about what trans. the '93 case came from(my stocker is manual.).
i suspect there must be a few different speedo drives for different differential ratios?
mine are those 5.64 ones.

gee- now i can figure my mpg better.....

That would be 5.62s, they are rare, and come out of a 1.3 early sidekick

There are several different speedo drive gears, they are color coded to
be able to tell them apart, I have seen white and blue, or it could of been
beige or slightly yellow, I'm not sure, at the time I thought it was discoloration
from the oil

thanks for the correction.
yea, i got that '89 1.3L carb model.
5.62

and both drive gears were white(or cream) colored, but i liked the results.

i was getting used to compensating for the speed difference with  my stocker, and it took me a bit to  realize i was going slower than i was used to.
i'm still slow, but happier.
