Is the carb compatible with the 1988 samurai? Seems like a good price compared to what i have seen with other  sites. Is the reason it is cheaper is because it is a manual choke? If so has anyone used this? How much trouble did you have getting it setup and tuned right. Thanks!

I see you are thinking of getting a Weber Carb.
I went this route last fall on my 1.3L '87 Sammy, been happy since!!
A couple things;   First
                           Do you have to have a "Sniff Test" to renew your plates? These carbs are for Off Road, don't do well on
                              "Sniff Tests".  I seen a few posts where some have tweeked them out enough to pass.
                       2nd,  Later, this spring I got a little more Zip In My DoDa by "matching" the intake.
                               You are going to get a adapter plate with the carb kit,
                              Take a "Sharpie Marker" and mark on the intake manifold carb mounting face the larger openings of the
                              adapter plate. Stuff small rags in the intake manifold runners, now match grind the intake to the Sharpie
                              marks. Take your time, the intake is aluminum and it grinds easily. I  used a Fluted Metal Rasp bit in my   
                              3/8 electric drill.
                              I picked one up at my parts house. Once you have it matching the adapter, vacuum out the intake,
                              pull out the rags, vacuum again, and follow the kits instructions and you should be GOOD 2 GO!
                              ALSO, I opened up the air cleaner adapter, too.

I installed a weber last month, very happy with it, the plate under the carb, to convert it to the Sam manifold is a little thin and I cracked it so be carfull when you installed the studs.

Not to highjack the thread but I am also considering the Weber carb and have a few more questions. My '88 is all stock and I live in the flat river bottoms (below 200' sea level) plus no "sniff" test is required. The MySide looks great but it seems I can go with the Weber for about half the price. No climbing rocks or hills around here, just water, sand and some dirt called "gumbo".

1: Since this flat country would the Weber still stall? As in the time it takes to launch a small fishing boat?

2: I am getting 22-25 mpg now. Will I be giving up much on the fuel consumption? I don't push too her hard for see is old like me!

3: I have read before that the manual fuel pump will work ok, but should a low pressure regulator still be installed? I understand that Weber's are finicky about fuel pressure.

my engine is stock, the weber works fine with the orignal fuel pump, I did have to mess with the electric choke to get it just right but Im very happy with the way the Sam runs now. I have a little more power but not much and since I have over sized tires my MPG is 20 on the hi way

I have an electric low pressure, high volume fuel pump;
a in line fuel pressure regulator; and a fuel pressure gauge.

Mine runs great at 2 psi and no flat spots. Just don't expect 100 HP in a Box.
You will definitely notice a Better Difference!!

Thanks for your input.  Probably go with a manual choke Weber before the fall hunting season gets here.

All that thought is moot now. Got the ok from "the boss" to nest egg for swap. Diesel swap is on the horizon. Probably over the winter for financial reasons.
