Throttle stuck/Carb piece broken
« on: April 23, 2011, 06:25:50 PM »
Throttle stuck open. This piece is broke. Wondering if the screw has fallen in and is sticking the valves in the bottom of the carb open.

Any help would be great.

So i have concluded that the screw from the mystery part has wedged open the valves in my carburetor. I have all but one nut loose. Cant get to it. I was trying to remove a vacuum pump looking assemebly to get to the nut but cant get a screw loose on it. I am going to have to pick up a crows foot wrench set to get that last nut off.

The thing that is really pissing me off is this: the parts stores dont carry just the gasket for the carburetor. I have to buy a whole kit with like 10 gaskets in it for 60 bucks. Has anyone had luck with making a gasket for the carb where it mounts to the intake manifold? Is it the paper style material or is it a metal type gasket?

I am getting so frustrated about to open that valve and let that little screw into the manifold, drink a beer or 12 and fire her up and see what happens!!!!

This is a REAL PAIN getting the "Inside nuts " off.

I cut a 12mm combination wrench in half just for this.
(This is a good example of buying "Cheap" garage sale tools, I have a whole collection of special wrench/tools
that have been; torch bent, cut & welded, etc made for these UGLY spots)

I make gaskets all the time.  The carb base gaskets (2 one each side of the insulator) is a
"Black Paper" gasket. You can buy this material at your local parts house.

Great tools for making gaskets; Leather punch w/multi size head, paper punch, Wood/Leather punch set has standard sizes
they are individual tools that you hit with a hammer, exacto Knife, and a old flat cutting board.
If you can, photo copy the old gasket, lay on gasket paper, push pin down, cut right through photo copy....Perfect repo.

Throttle cable is hanging up. Heading out to get a cable lubricator. If you dont have one add it to your tool chest.

just use caution here. make sure there are no burrs or "hot-spots" on the cable. thats a dang important item. well worth the cost of replacement in my opinion.

I only drive my sammy about 9 miles one way. I will pick up one this weekend. My biggest fear is deciding to head back on the hill and getting stuck back there. That would suck.
