93 SIDEKICK TEMP SENSOR PROBLEM'S (NEED HELP)

My buddy has a 93 sidekick 1.6 16 valve,he is having problem's with the temp sensor that tell's the computer what the temp is.(i think thats what its for) he has replaced it 4 time's and when it goes bad it gets poor gas milage and runs ruff and some time's it wont wanna start.he can unplug the wire to the temp sensor and he can drive it again.any one have any idea's what he can check out :(

can you get a pic of said sensor? preferably on engine.

Those sensors are pretty reliable, I would suspect a problem with the wiring loom or a bad connection. What fault code was he getting?
