Trouble with 2" coil lift

Started on driver's side on my 1989 Sidekick 2 door.  Removed sway bar but still could not get lower A arm low enough to get the spring out.  Unbolted the half-shaft and that did the trick.  Bolted everthing back up and started on the passenger side.  So discovered that half-shaft does not unbolt.  Please tell me there are other ways to get the A-arm lower without having the tear apart the hub to reome the half-shaft, which I have never done.  Do not have a spring compresser but again was told this can be done without one.  Thought about unbolting the lower ball joint but afraid of getting it apart without tearing up the boot.  Was told these kits are fairly easy to install.  They are far from easy, And I have worked on cars for 50 yrs.  Any suggestions?  Thanks,  John

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but you do have to remove the hub to remove the cv from the pass side. It's really not that bad though, remove the outer ring of bolts holding on the locking hub, save all the cone washers you'll reuse them. If I remember correctly there's a circlip on the end of the cv shaft which needs to be removed as well. You may also have to remove the steering tie rod from the knuckle and remove the two bolts holding the strut on. Or you can just remove the top strut bolt accessable from the engine compartment. Put a floor jack under the control arm before you start removing strut mount nut and lower carefully. Swap spring, jack up control arm and reassemble.
