Bad Misfire
« on: January 30, 2011, 02:45:46 PM »
ok first off this is my first post on here!

i have a 95 geo tracker with a very bad misfire, all cylinders have good spark and when you pull the plug wire off cylinder one there is no difference in engine speed. wires ohm out good and cyl one is getting good spark, tried swapping plugs and wires off another cylinder and the problem remains on cylinder one. the injector ohms out at 12ohms and the circuit checks out ok, no shorts to ground or power.
im pretty stumped, i havent tried switching the injectors around yet because its just too darn cold outside.
what do you all think?

Is this a bad miss at idle or when running?  Is it still there when you get on the gas?

You might want to clean out your EGR vavle and the EGR modulator.  That was causing an issue on my brothers 93 four door at idle.  A buddy has a 95 that is seeing performance issues when running, it was a bad EGR valve that was stuck open.  I have also seen 02 sensors mess things up in the past.

Swap the injectors, see if the problem stays on the cylinder or follows the injectors around.  Just make sure you don't damage the o-rings when you pull it.

But you stated the issue does not change no matter which plug you pull.  That is why I think it sounds like the EGR valve is stuck open.
