« on: December 24, 2010, 03:10:32 PM »
I just bout an 88 suzuki samurai it does not have any spark where do I start? It has power to the coil and out of the coil to the little box behind the coil. It has power going to the distribitor.

It's probably a good idea to swap in a known good distributor
to rule out any other parts, it's likely the ignitor inside the distributor

Check to see if you have fire comeing out of the coil going into the distributor cap, if so then it is cap or button. If not then distributor is next in line.  Good luck  c

If you have power at the coil and no fire coming out of the coil to the top pf the distributor then it almost has to be the ignitor in the distributor. Pull the coil wire out of the top of the distributor and hold the end close to a ground(without touching it :)) While someone turns it over and see if fire is going to the rotor button.  Good luck   c

Got no spark at the coil while cranking. Had my son in law hold the coil wire  >:D and he never screemed.  There is a little box behind the coil that sez ignitor on it. would it be this or the pickup in the distributor. Thanks Bob

It's the ignitors that go out, I would try that first, but don't buy any
new parts, see if you can find used ones or borrow if you can until you
figure out the problem.

The truck didn't happen to run and someone pulled the battery cable
off to check the alternator did they?
