« on: November 21, 2010, 09:35:16 AM »
I'm hoping to make it to Zukfari this year. I'm wanting to know what should I upgrade to prepare myself. i don't want to go all out. but i want to spent maybe 1500 more. i currently have a 97 sidekick 4 door with 3" lift and 31s. any suggestions or websites to check out and hope to see you there.

Rear locker would be good, front locker would be good, and a set of 4.24
t-case will make the truck more drivable on the steep stuff, but with 31s
it's not too bad, I wheeled Moab with stock t-case and 5.83 diffs on 33's
but I really liked the ease of climbing steep stuff with the t-case gears, they
are so low, your old 1st gear will be the same as new 4th gear  :o

Also you should think about a twin stick if you go with a front locker

its my daily driver and im fairly low budget, would a lockright or mini spool ruin the drivability. and will i need to replace front and rear ring and pinion, or can i get away with just the rear?

Do a lockrite, don't do a spool on the street truck, no changes
of ring and pinion are needed, and all you have to do is set the
backlash to about .008 and you will be good with the locker.

Street with a locker is a little different, you will soon get used
to it and it won't be a problem, just keep the same size tires
on the rear, I would put any new tires you get on the back
at the same time, this stops any torque steer from being a
problem

Hope to see you there. I would upgrade your idler arm if you have not done so yet. It is fairly cheap and will save major headaches, the factory ones don't hold up to off roading at all.

Registration is not needed, unless you plan on going on the runs with Red Rock 4 wheelers
and there is always camping available at Pack Creek, nice place cheep and they do have hookups
if wanted or dry camping if you want that, either way the showers are included

What exactly are the red rock crawlers? And would I be capable to keep up with them. And are you, Wild, going to be attending? I wanna see this turbo setup with my own eyes. :)

The Red Rock 4 Wheelers are the local Moab 4WD club, as far as keeping up
with them, I would say if you aren't sure then you probably need more wheeling
experience so just plan on going with us as a Suzuki group instead.

As far as the trip, I'm planning on it, but don't know for sure, I'm doing a major
rework and may or not be ready, and the turbo has been removed from the truck
because after the low gears were installed I couldn't use the power, but I am planning
a 16V engine that will have the turbo installed after the rework is done
