87 Samurai dies going over speed bump
« on: November 23, 2010, 06:15:21 AM »
My 87 Sammy dies when I drive over speed bumps at a speed above crawl. I then smell fuel which makes me believe that either the float is sticking or the needle valve has a small amount of debris or is damaged. Any thoughts on what to look for? It willl start but only after it sits for a few minutes and I pump the hell out of the accelerator.

FYI - It runs very well on the road with no fuel odor, hesitation or stalling... only the speed bumps or similar cause this to happen

Sounds like the fuel level is too high in the float bowl, and when
bouncing around it pukes fuel out of the vent and down the throttle.

Does it die easily if you go off road or try to climb a hill?

Wildgoody... I have not been off-roading or hill climbing recently since this stalling began as I did not want to put myself in any unnecessary trouble.   I'll verify that the float level is correct although I do not suspect this to be the cause since it had been performing reliably.

Thanks!
