Anyone installed Calmini Cat-Back on a 2.0?
« on: September 22, 2010, 06:48:21 AM »
Hello all,

I have a 2002 4-door Tracker with the 2.0L, and am wanting to install a cat-back exhaust system.  In Calmini's catalog, they list part# SK910 as compatible for this application as a bolt-on.  Has anyone installed this?  If so, I have a few questions:

1)  Is it really bolt-on?  or do you end up having to modify hangers, re-bend pipes, etc.?

2)  Can you get the old muffler/pipe assy. out in one piece without putting the rig on a lift?  I would like to keep it in case I sell the truck someday (god forbid I have to let go of it) and the buyer doesn't want the extra exhaust sound.

3)  Does the muffler seal to the pipes well enough by just using their clamps?  Or is there some way to seal it better without welding?

4)  What does it sound like?  I don't mind some noise on acceleration, but I'm really not too keen on a loud idle or a highway drone.

I know it would probably be easier to just take it to a muffler shop and have it done custom, but I hate having to go to the trouble of dropping my daily driver off somewhere while they work on it.  I also have a thing about "doing it myself" . . . but I don't have a welder or easy access to one.

Thanks in advance for any comments!

THe Calmini one is a rip-off. I purchased a THunderbolt cat on ebay for $25.00. It's been on for 6 months and it's great. Sound is good. Couldn't say if it really ads any power or gas saving. I would recommend welding it on also, just go ot a shop and get it done properly. THe things going to be banging around on trails and running through rivers, you want it on properly.

X2 on taking it to an ACTUAL exhaust shop.  I took one of my earlier Kicks to a MIDAS shop once and had to go back THREE times because they jacked up the over the axle bend twice and it was either banging on the axle or the shock.  I actually stood beside them to get the final bend corrected and the banging and knocking fixed.  A huge waste of money and my time.
