This has been here a while & no replies. Not sure but my guess is we don't know what you mean by 'hollow rims'. I'm not familiar with that term but if you mean the offset, or backspace those would make sense. By context I am guessing that's what you mean... so:
Wider rims with greater offset can help with overall stability by widening the stance of the vehicle. They can also, as you pointed out, handle wider tires.
Some disadvantages are: greater stress to wheel bearings & other suspension components... to some degree. It can be a bit of a trade off, & for the most part, unless it is extreme it's usually not a major problem. In some cases, maybe yours since your rig has no flares on the wheel wells, it can tend to throw mud & rocks etc at the occupants &/or others behind you. In some places it's not legal to do so, others it doesn't matter & might be just an inconvenience. It can make for a bit of hassle keeping the vehicle clean. Hope that helps, & welcome to the forum.
