air bag indicator light "ON"
« on: August 17, 2010, 11:57:54 PM »
I recently had my rack and pinion overhauled and unfortunately (finding out later on) that for procedures like this, the steering wheel and clock spring of the driver side airbag should have been removed first.

Now, my rack and pinion is as good as new. But lost the horn control on the steering wheel horn pad with the airbag indicator light remaining "ON".

Is there a way to repair the clock spring without replacing it? I am on a very tight budget.

Thank you for your inputs in advance!

I don't think you can repair it, you may be able to get the horn to work again, but the air bag system may not like any new resistance in a repair that has been made in the circut,  you may want to look around at a wrecker for the parts, because the dealer sells the the parts as a unit with the multifunction switch (wipers and signal switches) , the last price i heard was around 600+$

The ribbon cable wore and split in the clockspring on my tracker and I was able to sort of repair it.  However, about a year later now, the airbag light comes on sometimes depending on the position of the steering wheel.  I've just started researching getting a new one and I found gmpartsdirect.com has them.

W/Cruise: $183.27
W/O Cruise: $192.67

Those are the best prices I've found yet.  However, I've tried to order things from them before and they don't always carry the parts even though they are listed on their site so give them a call and have your VIN # handy to check if they are even available.
