1992 Asuna Sunrunner Bumper Plans/Lift Kit?
« on: October 13, 2010, 02:52:22 PM »
Hey guys I recently purchased a 1992 Asuna Sunrunner Soft top 5spd with 204 000 KM for 450$ for a hunting rig.  It leaked a small bit of oil when I bought it so I changed the valve cover gasket and now its perfect, it doesn't leak any fluids and seems to be running solid.  I also got a hard top for it as well, which reminds me I need the hard top hold downs, like the bases that screw into the vehicle. Where would I get a set of those? But I have been browsing this site as wll as others looking at the potential of these little rigs and I wanna build mine up, for cheap as its just a hunting rig.  I wanna build a front and rear bumper, but I am unsure of where to start, so if you guys have any pics or plans of bumpers(front and rear) that would be great! I also would like to lift it an inch or two, is there anyway I can do this for cheap? As well as bumpers and lift I would like to find a set of tires as well, is 235/75/15 a good size to throw on? I love the fuel economy of it, so would putting 235/75/15's affect that at all?  Any other tips or ideas or easy mods you guys know of?  sorry for the long post but just wanted to get everything covered,
please help me out!
Thanks
-Devin

Welcome to the sickness.  :)

You can fit the 235/75 R15 tires stock, no lift needed.  If you go much larger though you will start to loose power, especially with the 8 valve.  If you don't mind running up hills in forth gear you can push up to 30" tires, but I would recommend staying with the smaller ones until you know what you need.

The Build Diaries is a great place to see what people have done.  Take a look at BRD HNTR's build, he started out with a stock 91Tracker, the cousin to your Sunrunner, in order to build a hunting rig.  It's gotten a ways away from stock since.

What are you planning on using the new bumper for?  Just for looks or do you want the extra protection and a winch?

For the cheap lift the easiest method is to do what is called a spacer lift, good up to 2" before you start breaking things.  There are two or three people that make quality lifts on the board.  Mud Child and Jeff1997 have are the two most popluar ones.  you might try sending them a message to see if they fall within your price range.

I run a 1" spacer in the rear on my Tracker and stock Grand Vitara springs up front with a 1.5" Strut Spacer.  235/75R15 Toyo All Terrains with a 1" wheel spacer to give it a bit wider track and an anti-sway bar in the rear to help keep things nice and stable on the highway.  More of a DD/light adventuring build then a hunting rig, but she does drive nice in the twisties.

Feel free to ask all the questions you want, we'll answer as best we can.  :)

Thanks so much for the reply! I will defintely be runnin 235/75/15's and the bumper is for extra protection and looks, I would build 2 shackles onto the front for getting pulled out, and back bumper will just be a double tube with a mount for a CB radio antenna.  I am just unsure on where to mount the front and rear bumpers to be the solidest. I love the look of BRD HNTR's bumper and would love to have mine look like that when finished except for the shackles and a tube bumper that does a half circle up to protect the grill area. I will have to shoot a couple PM's to a couple of ppl and go from there.
As for tires what is a good tire in that size that will be good for chewin thru the mud yet not wear out too quick on the highway.  Also affordable, would like to keep a set of tires under 400$. I will not be doing the tires until spring as I do not want to be skating around on the ice with some deep lugged tires.
Thanks for all the helP!

Hey could not figure out how to send a PM lol so I will just ask ya, what does the kit all include? and does it need any modifications to work or do you need to change anything after you put the lift on?
What about these lifts?

Are they decent? Or what should I be looking for when looking at lifts? I have never lifted a vehicle before so this is all new to me, I just want to find a cheap lift that is decent.

Jeff1997- Is the coil/strut spacer lift the same as those two lifts? Could you get me some pics of what the kit all includes?
Thanks so much guys
