Its been 4 years since I built my samurai top drive hunting buggy. What it is 86' ragtop with a deer stand mounted on top along with all the controls to drive it from the top, inside the deer stand. Very stable. Been hunting out of it for 4 years. Well the clutch took a sh$t .  My old computer crashed with the sammy service manual on it, so I am going to have to start from ground zero. With the solid cross member, Can I disconnect the front drive shaft , rear transmission mount , unbolt  and slide the tranny back from the engine, then slide it forward and  tilt it out toward the engine? OR Does the cross member unbolt and come out? Hey you sammy GURU's give me a few tips please!!!! I am stuck in a motel a 200 miles from home trying to picture this r& r while trying to keep from going stir crazy. I could be home fixing my toy.
Thanks

You say front drive shaft, do you mean the front axle shaft, or the short shaft
between the engine and trans? anyway, the center t-case mount unbolts, I would
drop the drive shafts and remove the t-case, they aren't hard or heavy and it will
give you working room, then pull the tranny and swap out that clutch, your biggest
problem will be making sure the clutch disc is centered so the trans will re-mate with
engine easily, I would get a centering tool or a socket that fits good to center the
disc just before the pressure plate gets tightened down.

This isn't a hard fix, but could take half of your day not being home

Good Luck

Thanks wild, I am just off at inservice school. The sammy is at the house.  As far as the shaft, I was refering to the trans to t fer case shaft. I used to have a lift and now just a pit to work in so I want to get finished as fast as possible without a lot of extra work because I cannot tie up the pit all that long. If I can remove the cross member, I will do just that and drop it. I have no oil leaks but I will need an engine support.  I always buy new complete kits with all the parts and a new alignment tool . will probally go ahead and buy a new flywheel just in case the old one is damaged. It looked good 4 years ago and I should have put new in there then but It got into my wallet real deep and I am paying now.

Well I got it replaced. No problems. New clutch kit. When I pulled the transmission out the clutch and pressure plate were in good condition. So why was the clutch not disengaging? I found the clutch cable was at fault. A lot of work and expense for a clutch cable but at least I know it will not be an issue in the near future. I went ahead and put the pilot bearing disk , cover and throw out bearing, all new and a new clutch cable. Works like a dream now.
