95 Sidekick EGR & springs
« on: July 20, 2010, 07:19:45 PM »
I'm not sure what's happening, but I just had to replace my second EGR valve in 5 months. It keeps blowing out the plug in the end, any ideas? I'm getting no trouble codes either.

Second does anyone know where I can get a set of new springs for a 95 4dr 2 wheel drive model?

EGR passage restricted?  I wouldn't think the EGR passages would have enough pressure to blow the plug out of the end...but I guess it's possible.
For the springs....tried the dealer or an online parts dealer?  If you are looking for brand new, then those are probably your only options.  If you are just needing some good used springs, then salvage yards, private individuals, etc.  IIRC, 2wd springs are a little softer/lighter than 4wd springs, so you could get some 4x4 springs and they should be firmer and probably lift it just a little.  Make sure you get 4 door springs, since the 2 door springs are not the same as 4 door springs.

Ok both EGR valves that blew were replacement ones(aftermarket). I noticed the other night I might be changeing #3 also. The vacum hose at the top looks like it burned through, from the inside.

As for the springs I've tried the local parts stores ( Advance-Autozone) and they don't even list them. Trail tough list a set from OME for a four door, but they are a 2in lift and come with shocks and struts. I just put new struts and shocks on and this is a pure stocker otherwise. The Samurai is the playtoy.

The big hose looked like it burned through?  Have you checked the vacuum valves at the front of the engine that hook to the EGR modulator?  I believe just one hooks to the EGR modulator.  If it is not working correctly, then maybe that is what is causing the EGR issue.  Or, like I said, maybe one of the EGR passages is plugged up and causing excess pressure to build up....but I would still be surprised if it would be enough to blow the valve, since it is just exhaust pressure.
Yeah, that is why I said dealer or online parts place.  I doubt any local auto parts store would carry the springs.
