I hate shorts!

O.K., I'm blowing rear turn signal fuses. It's an '88 Sami, late '88, some '88 1/2 parts.
I checked my rear wiring harness for the after market bumper. Seemed o.k., then I tried my four-way flashers and they work fine, so I think I've eliminated the rear wiring. I decided it had to be in the turn signal unit (three way, or whatever, under the steering wheel) as there was a crack down one side of it. Replaced it Saturday with a good one. Worked Sat and on the way into work this morning, it was dead when I left work this evening--same as always fuse was dead. Replaced it, blew as soon as I hit the ignition. So, any ideas? I'm beginning to think it's before the signal unit, or, it's in the flasher itself. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

O.K., someone just mentioned this--put it under the "gee, I didn't know that" tab. Are the backup lights on this circuit? If so, I could have a ground out in that line somewhere...they have never worked.

that seems like the most likley culprit.  Most meters have a continuity checker in them that makes a sound.  I would start with that and work your way from the column stalk through the flasher, out to the lights.  Some where WILL have an issue.  The thing about electrical issues is that as magical as they seem, there is always an answer and it always has an external cause which would the magical sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't seem plausible.
