hey guys, i have a question to ask you. i've recentlly added front brake and bigger tire to my tracker nothing to big just 30/9.5/15. and i have notice that i can't get the speed i use to? i had 225/75/15 and i didnt have a problem with speed then. i was wondering is it the tire or could it be something else. i have problems doing 95 km, when i do it kinda slow right back down into the mid 80km in 5 gear. Do i need gear reduction? or could it be my cable that is streched out?? If's it's my cable how do i check to see if it's that or not? thank, any info is appreciated pierre

shut up and wheel it.. sick of hearing oh my (fill in blank) stock can climb mountians yet the only off roading its seen is the curb their g/f ran over!

What did you do to the brakes? 30 x 9.5 tires shouldn't make that big of difference. Sounds like you may have sticky calipers.

The caliper arn't sticken i already cheked that. besides i don't seem to have a problem at excel but when it comes to 5th thats when i have the problem.

its your gear ratios even with 30" tyres

if you go 31" or 32" or even 33" without ring and pinion mods on your gearing then your road speed will be much slower

Im running the same size tires on my Sidekick. 100Kms on the speedo (60 miles) My motors running 3500rpms. Ive got no problems with speed, just a lack of power. I havent owned it very long, and the last owner didnt take as good of care of it as he could.  So im not sure if the gears have or havent been changed. All i know is the kick does fairly well with the 30s that are on it.  Good gear sets you can get from Calmini, or Rocky road, Im sure there are other places as well.  Hope you fix the problem soon.

The kind of tire will also ad to rolling resistance. If you went from a road tire to a mud tire, there is alot more weight there for your engine to turn.

if the tires r bias ply they will add alot of resistance. if u can use radials they hold there shape better.

they are all right, your speedo is out.  without knowing your exact tire dimension, I'd safely say that while your speedo says 80 you are actually doing 90.  You will also do it at less rpm.  I have 33's on my hamster, indicates 78 when I'm doing 100 - you can have a friend with a reliable car drive behind you and give you an estimate.   I also have an overdrive gear with this setup - I do the exact rpms in 4th as I used to do in 5th.  Dont bother with gears, you dont need them.   If I can run 33x12.5 s in mud believe me you can run 30s

i run 34's with stock gears and it is hell on road.  works well off road though.

 If you want the pavement manners back, figure out what gears you have now, we can help with that, and we can help you figure out what you need. But your gearing is definitely the culprit.

It will also depend on what engine you have. The gearing on the manual transmission cars are all the same but the 16V has loads more power (95bhp instead of 80) so bigger tyres are less of an issue. On 33s and stock gearing mine is really bad, on 29s the difference was quite noticeable but mine is only an 8V. It seemed a little overgeared with the stock 27" tyres on, the only answer is change the gearing or use 4th gear more.
