Regulator is OK, max PSI is about 60
on the stock pump, there is an internal
pressure blow off valve, it blows off at
60-65 PSI, mine blew off at 63 PSI

did you check the cam timing yet, BTW
I did a little checking on a 16V motor, the
valves did not hit the piston as I turned the
cam over with the piston at TDC, so the 16V
motor should be able to survive a broken
cam timing belt, you might have a timing belt
slip, I had that happen on an Audi I used to
have, it kept "loosing" timing advance (ignition)
so I moved the Dizzy, and it happened again,
so I moved it again, all the time thinking the
computer was going bad,  Doh .....

Finaly the belt lost too many teeth and spun
the belt on the crank cogs and she quit in a hurry,
so I replaced the belt, and all was right again.

Check your Ignition Timing, if it's off, you might
want to look into the Cam Timing Belt as the
problem

Good Luck
