Auto Tranny Question (2000 GV 2.5LV6)
« on: August 07, 2010, 11:00:41 AM »
After a recent spirited outing in Moab, we've noticed that when we put the tranny in gear from park or shift D-R or back, the tranny shifts into the new gear much more abruptly (e.g., "slamming" into gear).  Any ideas on what might be causing this?

TIA ~

Do you notice it in any other situation, such as, at speed, shifting between gears?  Or only while stationary?
My first thought was tranny mounts worn.  Could be wrong, but it was just the first idea that popped into my head.  And I wouldn't be able to tell you how to "test' the integrity of them, hopefully someone else will chime in.

It's only when shifting into gear from a stop, otherwise it seems normal.  And it doesn't 'slam' into gear, but it's much more abrupt than before and quite noticeable.  You really want to make sure your foot's on the brake firmly!  Oh, about 110kmi, and the fluid is almost new (~6kmi/1 yr old).

Sorry for delay - idle is fine.  Seems to be mostly when the tranny is cold (now, at least).  When it's warm outside and the car's been run, it shifts into gear normally.  When cold, it's abrupt.  Just for clarification, idle settles down quickly - not like a cold choke idle in the winter cold.  And this started after a good workout in Moab, I may just have the fluid changed again for general good practice.

Sounds like torn mount.
