« on: May 21, 2010, 08:45:26 PM »
I am looking at towing the sammi i may be buying. If i am using a tow dolly with the front wheels raised onto the dolly, do i just pu the sammi in neutral?

Thanks in advance.

Forgot it is a 5 spd manual

I believe the 'book' says 2nd gear, x=fer neutral.

Personally, I ALWAYS disconnect the rear D/S.

...you can tie it up to the frame or rremove  the half completely, just make sure it is re-installed properly in-phase.

....a search of the boards will show MANY people have blown trans/engine/x-fer case when not disco-ing the rear D/S  ???

Thus my prefernce of not using a tow dolly.  I will tow ONLY on a flatbed trailer capable of fitting all 4 wheels on it. all others do not work for me.   less risk=happier.

With a manual trans, trans in neutral should be fine, if you put the t-case
in neutral you might end up spinning the front drive shaft too

Make sure you stop every 200 miles and run the vehicle in 2nd gear for 5 minutes while the transfer case is in neutral.  Also, if you have manual hubs make sure they are unlocked.  As wildgoody  pointed out, when in neutral the front driveline turns.

An alternative would be to install a twin stick, s patter or H pattern shifter.  Then you can use 2wd neutral.
